Randi White’s Plan for MD-01

The New Plan

When you vote for someone, you should know what they’re actually going to do. Here is my plan.

Randi White
Why I wrote this

Politicians have been running on vague promises in this district for as long as anyone can remember, and the promises never get kept.

I think that’s why people stop voting.

So I wrote down exactly what I’d do in Congress if MD-01 sends me. The plan is about 180 pages. Pick whichever theme matters most to you and start there. If something’s missing, tell me.

The platform is here if you want the headlines. What’s below is how I’d legislate them.

Theme 1

Honor the Deal We Made

You paid in for your entire working life. The government has to honor that contract.

— Randi White

This is about the people who held up their end of the deal. Most of the promises the government made them are being broken right now.

1.1

Bargaining Rights

Protecting your right to join a union and bargain for better pay.

1.2

Triple Hit

Pushing back on federal cuts hitting workers and seniors in MD-01 at the same time.

1.3

Promise to Veterans

Making sure veterans get the benefits and care they were promised.

1.4

Eastern Shore VA

Bringing VA services to Eastern Shore veterans who shouldn't have to drive hours for care.

1.5

Right to Organize

Backing the PRO Act and making organizing legal in industries that fight it hardest.

1.6

Social Security

Protecting Social Security from cuts disguised as reforms.

1.7

Right to Vote

Defending your right to vote against the people trying to take it away.

Theme 2

Healthcare is a Human Right

A wealthy country should not be losing mothers in childbirth.

— Randi White

Most of MD-01 is medically underserved. The way Congress and the insurance industry have set this up, that's not an accident.

2.1

Mothers Shouldn't Die

Closing the maternal mortality gap killing Black mothers in MD-01.

2.2

Doctors When You Need Them

Bringing primary care doctors to the rural counties where you can't find one.

2.3

Care That Treats You Right

Making sure you don't get talked down to or turned away when you need care.

2.4

Coverage You Can Count On

Protecting the health insurance you have from being yanked out from under you.

2.5

Mental Health, Dental, Vision

Treating mental health like real health care, and getting dental and vision covered alongside it.

Theme 3

Environmental Justice

Polluters who profit by breaking the watershed should pay for the watershed.

— Randi White

The economy of MD-01 runs on the Bay and the land around it. Big polluters have been skating for decades while everyone else pays for the cleanup.

3.1

Bay and Polluters

Making big polluters pay for Bay cleanup instead of taxpayers.

3.2

Offshore Wind

Backing offshore wind on the Delmarva coast and the jobs that come with it.

3.3

Climate, FEMA, Crisfield

Making sure FEMA actually shows up when MD-01 floods.

3.4

A Trade Worth Saving

Defending the watermen and the seafood industry against policies that keep squeezing them.

3.5

Family Farms

Backing family farms against agribusiness consolidation and disappearing federal support.

3.6

The Land Worth Keeping

Keeping public lands public and the Shore wild.

Theme 4

Life and Liberty

The federal government does not get to decide whose family counts or whose body is real.

— Randi White

These are the freedoms most under attack right now. Personal decisions the government has never had any business making.

4.1

Your Body, Your Decision

Restoring federal protection for reproductive health care, including IVF.

4.2

LGBTQIA+ Lives Lived Out Loud

Backing the Equality Act and protecting trans people from the laws trying to erase them.

4.3

An Immigration System That Works

Fixing the immigration system that's broken for the families and farmers who depend on it.

4.4

Gun Safety

Passing universal background checks and the other gun safety laws that already work everywhere else.

4.5

Black History is American History

Defending what's taught in schools from the people trying to censor it.

Theme 5

The Pursuit of Happiness

What is missing in MD-01 is a federal partner who treats this as part of the job.

— Randi White

This is the daily stuff: schools, jobs, housing, getting around, the businesses that keep towns alive. The federal government has more leverage on every one of these than it admits.

5.1

Schools That Work

Defending public schools and the IDEA funding rural districts need to serve kids with disabilities.

5.2

Towns Worth Staying In

Making sure MD-01 towns get the federal investment that keeps them from emptying out.

5.3

Real Jobs Here

Bringing real jobs to MD-01 that pay enough to live on.

5.4

Small and Black-Owned Businesses

Restoring the SBA and MBDA so small and Black-owned businesses can actually get capital.

5.5

Get Where You're Going

Fixing what MD-01 commuters actually depend on, from the Bay Bridge to rural roads.

5.6

Houses People Can Live In

Using the federal housing toolkit Congress gives us to make MD-01 affordable for the people who already live here.
